SAP VC Translation to Oracle CPQ

 InnovationWithMagnifyingGlass - 000015723126 300x200eSpline has converted SAP Variant Configurator ("VC") rule patterns and master data for several applications and now has a translation and migration of SAP VC rule patterns and objects to Oracle CPQ (formerly BigMachines).

Now, companies having both SAP VC and Oracle CPQ or BigMachines have a conduit between the two applications.   Maintain SAP Variant Configurator rules in one place and these can be translated and loaded into Oracle CPQ and achieve the same results.  

Behavior may differ because the two applications' user experiences are different, but the results are the same.  User choice selection is the same.  Configurator engine selections that the end user should not see are the same.

VC Model in SAP

Avenue Translator - Model image in SAP - 600x384This is a view of an SAP Variant Configurator product model running in SAP.  This is the configurable product model (KMAT) that can be extracted in minutes from your SAP client and imported to the eSpline Avenue Server, analyzed, parsed and translated to Oracle CPQ rule patterns and then imported to Oracle.  Today, the process is automated and is virtually a hands-off process.

First login to SAP and then login to the eSpline Avenue Portal (not shown here) to extract all the objects in the VC model.  The next step is to Extract the SAP VC configurable product model frequently referred to as a KMAT.  Once the product model is in the eSpline Avenue Server, you have the option to view the model in html or pdf with the Avenue Model View and then we recomend running an Avenue Health Check report (if this is the first time to extract) to determine if there will be any issues with the SAP VC model that might cause a translation problem.  There is a specific reporting category in the Avenue Health Check to inform you of potential issues with the VC to Oracle CPQ translation. 

 

 

 

Extract an SAP VC Model

Avenue Portal Extract Screen - 600x200Here eSpline uses a customer tested capability to extract the SAP Variant Configurator product model (KMAT) knowledgebase from an SAP instance.  There are multiple choices for the extract process, which is always a read-only process. 

There is no need for an SAP Basis resource.  As long as you have authorization in SAP, all model objects can be extracted.  The SAP VC model(s) are extracted and imported to the cloud and into eSpline's Avenue Portal, processed and made ready for the translation.  In a production environment, you would not normally see this screen, it would be automated for you.

SAP VC Health Check for Oracle CPQ

VCandBig - HealthCheck - ReportPg2We recommend when translating a SAP VC product model for the first few time you might want to execute the Avenue Health Check Report and refer specifically to the Formatting for Oracle CPQ | BigMachines category.   Of course, there are 8 other categories to review as well to help assure the VC model is in "good health".
